Gertrude Dorman Obituary
Gertrude Lewman Dorman passed away September 19, 2014, on her 98th birthday. She died peacefully at the Providence Retirement Home in New Albany, IN with family members present.
She is survived by daughters Ruth Knowland Emily, Marsha Dorman Memoli (Sam), Debra Dorman Gillenwater (Jim), six grandchildren (Todd Applegate, Dana Applegate Borders, Yvette Sublett, Jason Gillenwater, Ashley Gillenwater Eade and Lauren Gillenwater), six great grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren.
Gertrude, who was born in Clark County, Indiana, was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Vinnie Lewman, brothers Harvey, John, Jack, and sisters Sarah and Helen. She was also preceded in death by her husband John D. Dorman, who died in 1963, and husband John Knowland, who died in 1948.
She was a member of Depauw Memorial United Methodist Church in New Albany, IN and a former member of Park Memorial United Methodist Church in Jeffersonville, IN. She was a very devoted mother and grandmother who tirelessly helped her family in many unselfish ways. The family appreciates the outstanding care Gertrude received from the employees and physicians of Providence Retirement Home in New Albany, IN.
There will be no visitation, at Gertrude's request. A memorial service will be held to celebrate Gertrude's life on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Scott Funeral Home in Jeffersonville, IN. Online condolences can be made at www.scottfuneralhome.com/obituaries.
