Charles Tevis Obituary

Charles Donald Tevis, 81, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2024, in Georgetown, Indiana. Born on June 2, 1942, to Thomas and Barbara Tevis in Jeffersonville, Indiana, Charles leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and unforgettable memories. Charles was a pillar of his family, cherished as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His devotion extended beyond his family to his beloved dogs, whom he cared for with unmatched tenderness. Known for his fondness for Halloween, he brought joy and laughter to many with his festive spirit. A proud veteran, Charles served honorably in both the Marines and Air Force, earning the title of "Grumpy Old Marine" which he wore with pride. His commitment to service didn't end with his military career; he remained deeply civic-minded throughout his life. He actively participated in Dare to Care initiatives, organized can drives, and generously supported various donation efforts for the American Legion and returning military Veterans. In addition to his service, Charles was a dedicated Girl Scout Cookie Chairman, exemplifying his belief in empowering young women. Charles was a retiree from both LG&E, and Republic Bank. His passion for travel led him to explore the vibrant festivities of Mardi Gras in New Orleans, where he delighted in dressing up and parading through the streets. When not engaged in community service or travel, Charles found solace in woodworking, crafting beautiful pieces that reflected his skill and creativity. He also enjoyed unwinding with a cold beer, appreciating life's simple pleasures. Charles Donald Tevis will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, generosity, and indomitable spirit will continue to inspire and uplift those whose lives he touched. Farewell to a remarkable man whose legacy of love and service will endure through generations.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Tevis and Barbara Dailey Tevis; his 2 sisters, Mary Tevis, and Dorothy Schultz, his son, Christopher Tevis; and his grandson, PVT2. U.S. Army - Eric Cullins.

Left to cherish his memory, Charles is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Tevis; 5 children, Tony Tevis, Laura Cullins, Sean Eadens, Debra Kirkpatrick, and Amanda Tevis (Josh Wettig); 4 grandchildren, Andrew Cullins, Nikki Kirkpatrick, Kat Dones, and Anthony Tevis; 4 great-grandchildren, Damian Kirkpatrick, Rowan Kirkpatrick, Levi Dones, and Harrison Dones; and a host of extended family and close friends.

A merrymaking bash for Mr. Charles Tevis will be held at 3 PM on June 8, 2024, at The Raven Irish Pub, 3900 Shelbyville Road, St. Matthews, KY 40207.
