Shirley Sweatt Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Shirley Ann Sweatt, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished member of her community. Shirley left this world on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at the age of 74, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and nurturing care.

Shirley was known for her remarkable singing voice and willingness to serve others through the gift of song. She wonderfully paired her talents as a singer with her faith as a Catholic, singing in the Resurrection Choir at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Many recall the mission trips spent in Haiti, where she loved on others less fortunate and shared the message of God’s grace.

Shirley's greatest gift was her unwavering love and devotion to her family. Guided by her Catholic faith, she exemplified the virtues of compassion, selflessness, and unconditional love in every aspect of her life. As a devoted wife, she stood by her husband through thick and thin. As a mother, she showered her children with boundless affection and guidance, instilling in them values of kindness, integrity, and faith. And as Granny, she doted on her grandchildren, filling their lives with laughter, wisdom, and cherished memories.

Shirley's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, forever remembered for her warmth and generosity. Though she may have bid farewell to this world, her love will continue to blossom in the lives of those she touched, a perennial reminder of the beauty of her soul. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Glenn Douglas Sweatt.

Survivors include her children, Sikudhani S. Sweatt (Chere), of Jeffersonville, Master Sergeant Jumaane D. Sweatt (Crystal), of Jeffersonville; siblings, Elizabeth Ann Ballard (Booker), Curtis Manon Rivers (MaryJo), Philip Mark Anthony Rivers (Rhonda); grandchildren, Nevaeh L. Sweatt and Jaden G. Sweatt, of Jeffersonville; and numerous nieces and nephews
