It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that we announce the tragic passing of Andre "AJ" Edwards, Jr., age 14, who left us on Monday, May 27, 2024. AJ was a beacon of light, an example of kindness, and a true gentleman whose life, though brief, was filled with extraordinary grace and promise.
Born on January 25, 2010, AJ was the embodiment of compassion and respect. From a young age, he was known for his innate ability to make everyone around him feel valued and included. Whether he was holding doors open with a courteous smile, assisting elderly ladies in the Wal-Mart parking lot, or finding ways to share the joys of the moment with those around him, AJ’s actions spoke volumes of his noble character.
AJ’s brilliance shone brightly in every aspect of his life. A gifted and innovative mind, he had a particular passion for engineering, where his creativity and intellect flourished. His Lego projects, often inspired by his love for the natural world and gaming, showcased a remarkable blend of technical skill and imaginative thinking. Friends and family alike marveled at his ability to turn complex problems into elegant solutions, always with a modest and unassuming demeanor.
The outdoors was AJ’s sanctuary. Whether hiking through rugged trails, camping under starlit skies, or simply enjoying the tranquility of nature. His love for gaming was equally profound, not just as a pastime, but as a way to connect with others, build communities, and explore new worlds through the digital landscape.
In every group, AJ was the heartbeat, the one who ensured that everyone felt included and valued. His laughter was infectious, his generosity boundless, and his spirit indomitable. He had a unique gift for bringing people together, fostering camaraderie, and creating lasting memories. His friends often remarked on his uncanny ability to find the silver lining in every situation, uplifting those around him with his unwavering positivity.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gregory “Papaw” Malott; and Jesse and Mary Edwards.
Survivors include his parents, Amanda Malott (Dustin Reed) and Andre Edwards (Cheyenne Tucker); siblings, Bishop Edwards and Alissa Malott (Rylan Binkley); maternal grandparents, Judy “Grammy” and Richard “Happa” Clark; four uncles; seven aunts; his beloved dogs, Scooby, Dixie Mae, Wookie, Eloi, and Yuna; and a host of cousins, extended family and friends.
Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway – Jeffersonville. Funeral services will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2024, at Scott Funeral Home, with burial to follow at New Chapel Cemetery.
