Betty Alice Combs Smith, 83, of Charlestown, IN, passed away on Thursday, August 10, at home with Nathaniel Smith, her loving husband of 59 years by her side. Betty was born in Charlestown on February 25, 1940 to George and Bertha Combs.
Betty worked at the FW Woolworths store in Jeffersonville, IN. She left Woolworths to devote her time to her family. She loved teaching and playing the piano. Often, she quoted poetry and wrote poetry as well. She was a seamstress and a very good cook. She preserved garden produce and managed her home well. She loved her children and grandchildren. Most of all she loved the Lord and was a faithful member of her church.
In addition to her loving husband, Betty is survived by her children, Adam (Angie) Smith of Marysville, IN, Lorna (Joe) Bille of Jeffersonville, IN, Lt. Col. Jesse (Sheila) Smith of Southern Pines, NC, and Daniel (Becky) Smith of Charlestown, IN; six grandchildren, Isaac (Anna) Smith of Phoenix, AZ, Joseph (Kiah) Jensen of Blackfoot, ID, Lillian Smith of Southern Pines, NC, Savanna, Audrey, and Abraham Smith of Charlestown, IN; and one great-grandchild, Zane Jensen of Blackfoot, ID.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Pauline Jones, Barbara Stewart; and brother, Billy Combs.
Visitation will be at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway, on Sunday, August 13 from 3:00 to 8:00 pm, and again on Monday, August 14 from 9:00 to 10:00 am. The funeral service will be at 10:00 am in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will follow in Charlestown Cemetery.
