Betty Joy Brooks was born in Kilgore, Texas April 9, 1934 to the late Bill and Alice Sherrill.
After graduating from Sabine High School, she married Delbert Brooks. In 1953 they were blessed with a baby girl, Debra Lynn, and in 1955, a son, David Louis.
In 1964 the Brooks family moved to Jeffersonville, Indiana. While there, they were ordained into the Ministry. Over the next 50 years, Revs Delbert and Joy Brooks pastored and worked in churches in Indiana, Texas, Oklahoma, and Mississippi. They traveled the world preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Joy was known for her delicious “Southern Cooking”. Everything on her table had to be made from “scratch”. Her homemade biscuits and gravy, cobblers, pies, and cakes will be greatly missed by her friends and family.
Joy is preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Brooks; daughter-in-law, Kay Brooks; son-in-law, Charles Hill; her mother, Alice Sherrill; her father, Bill Sherrill; and two sisters, Glen Perry and Helen Murry.
She is survived by her children, Debra Hill and David Brooks; her grandchildren, Jason Hill, Daniel Brooks (Charmin) and Julie Bush (Steve); her great grandchildren, Piper Burke (Sam), Braeden Hill, Dalton Brooks (Piper), Chloe Hill, Delbert Brooks (Jade), Camilla Hill, and Bryce Bush; her great-great grandsons, Daniel Louis Brooks and Dale Lincoln Brooks.
The family would like to express their gratitude to “Traditions” Executive Director, Kathy Jones, and the wonderful Traditions staff for all their love and support!
