Billy Stout Obituary

Billy Harold Stout, born May 28, 1944, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026, at his home surrounded by the love of his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, educator, and friend whose life was marked by dedication to learning, service to others, and deep love for his family.

Billy spent his life in education, a calling that began in 1964 when he started teaching in Ohio. Through hard work, leadership, and a genuine passion for helping young people succeed, he rose through the ranks from teacher to principal and eventually served as superintendent of schools. Even after years of service in public education, his passion for learning continued as he became a professor at Campbellsville University, where he helped shape and inspire future educators until his retirement.

Outside of his professional life, Billy found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved attending car races, spending peaceful hours fishing, and above all, sharing time with the people he loved most. His family was the center of his world, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

Billy is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Reba Stout; his daughter, Shawn Hicks (Daniel); his beloved grandchildren, Jordan Hicks and Brendan Hicks; his sister, Linda Breeding; and his nieces and nephews, Bruce Stout, Robert Stout (Rebecca), Tonya Short (David), and Holly Caudill. He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will forever treasure his kindness, wisdom, and steady presence.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lillian Stout, and his brother, Robert L. Stout.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville, Indiana 47130.

A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with entombment to take place afterward at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville, Indiana.

Billy’s legacy lives on through the countless students he inspired, the colleagues he mentored, and the family who loved him deeply. He will be remembered for his integrity, his devotion to education, and the quiet strength and love he gave so freely to those around him.
