Bonnie Sidebottom Obituary

Bonnie Groher Sidebottom, 80, died Oct. 2 at The Villages at Historic Silvercrest in New Albany.

She was born in Louisville on Sept. 1, 1943, to the late Edward W. and Ida May Groher, née Hempel, of Clarksville.  A 1961 graduate of Clarksville High School, she earned a diploma from the old Bryant & Stratton Business College in Louisville and worked as a secretary and receptionist.  She was named 1965 Young Career Woman by the Clarksville Business and Professional Women’s Club.  Following almost two decades as a full-time homemaker, she worked as a referral specialist and receptionist for medical practices in New Albany and Louisville.  She attended Indiana University Southeast, where she also taught a noncredit course titled “inspired Homemaking with Liberating Tactics.”

In 1961 she was the honored queen of the International Order of Job’s Daughters Bethel No. 24 in Jeffersonville.  The theme she chose for her installation, “The Lord is My Shepherd,” reflected her deep faith.  She was a member of St. Luke’s United Church of Christ in Jeffersonville.  Bonnie was known for many things, including her beautiful smile and her beautiful voice.

She is survived by five sons, Edward D. Clere (Amy), of New Albany; Raymond R. Clere of Georgetown, KY.; Daniel T. Clere (Jodi) of Asheville, NC.; Joseph M. Clere (Lauren) of Victoria, Minn.; and Jacob A. Clere (Su) of Yangon, Myanmar; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at the church starting at 9 a.m. Saturday until a memorial service at 1 p.m., followed by interment of ashes at Walnut Ridge Cemetery.  Scott Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be directed to the church, 329 Walnut St., Jeffersonville, IN 47130.
