Bruce Sagebiel

Alan “Bruce” Sagebiel, 84, passed away the morning of June 9th, 2021 in Louisville, Kentucky. A visitation for Bruce will be Saturday, June 12, from 10am-2pm at Scott Funeral Home (2515 Veterans Pkwy, Jeffersonville, IN, 47130); with the funeral service to follow at 2pm. Burial will take place in Eastern Cemetery after the funeral service.

Bruce was a soft-spoken and true gentleman, who was a lover of pies, a beautiful sunset, and time with his family. He was a steadfast follower of Jesus, Jeffersonville Red Devils, the Indiana Hoosiers, and Cincinnati Reds. Bruce always gave more than he received and never tried to be anyone other than himself, which was a great husband, father, son, brother, friend, and Christian.

Bruce was born on December 2, 1936 in Jeffersonville, Indiana to the late Jim and Edna Sagebiel. He graduated in the Class of 1954 from Jeffersonville High School, where he met the love of his life and future bride, Patricia (Pat). Sagebiel. Together, they raised five children and were married 63 wonderful years. Bruce was a life-long member of Park Memorial United Methodist Church in Jeffersonville. In many ways, Bruce was a renaissance man—he was an artist, a cook, a singer in the men’s church quartet, a handyman who never feared a home repair project, a guy who seemed to excel in any sport, and simply a kind, gentle soul.    

Along with his wife and his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Sagebiel; and brother, David Sagebiel. Bruce is survived by his brother Ralph (Marsha); four sons, Kirk Sagebiel (Mary Beth); Tony Sagebiel; Joe Sagebiel (Karen); Ed Sagebiel (Courtney Roberts); six grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. A special thank you to Kathy Steinmachowski, his amazing caregiver over the last 10 months.

Welcome him home, dear Father. Take him to the place to be with you and his love, and where the pies are many at your table of plenty.
