Carol Lynn Theobald Oyler, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on the afternoon of June 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Carol was born on October 27, 1944, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Carl and Valera Theobald. From an early age, she was deeply rooted in Louisville's Catholic community, where the values of faith, compassion, service, and education would shape the course of her life. She graduated from Presentation Academy in 1962 before pursuing her passion for teaching at Spalding University, where she first earned her teaching certificate and later her bachelor's degree. Dedicated to lifelong learning, Carol continued her education by earning a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Louisville.
Throughout her distinguished career in Catholic education, she devoted herself to nurturing and encouraging generations of students at St. Anthony Catholic School, St. Agnes School, Most Blessed Sacrament School, and St. Nicholas Academy. She believed every child deserved to be seen, valued, and given the opportunity to succeed. Her unwavering commitment to meeting the diverse learning needs of her students made a lasting impact on countless families and earned her the Office of Catholic Schools' prestigious Irene Casey Catholic Inclusion Award. Following her retirement, Carol led a life centered around family, faith, and friendship. As a member of Sacred Heart Church and a regular volunteer with Sister Visitor Charities, she found joy in worship, fellowship, and serving others. Carol also treasured the friendships she cultivated over the years. She faithfully attended her weekly pinochle club as well as grandchildren’s graduations, school plays, and sports games. Above all else, Carol cherished her family. She found her greatest happiness in being a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a proud grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert C. Oyler, Jr.; her sister, Sally Theobald Edwards; her children, Daniel M. Oyler, Kathryn L. Oyler Bailey, Audrey L. Oyler, and Theresa Oyler Wells; eight cherished grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many extended family members, dear friends, former students, and colleagues whose lives were enriched by her kindness and dedication.
Visitation will be held at Scott Funeral Home (2515 Veterans Parkway Jeffersonville, Indiana) on Saturday July 11th from 1:00pm-3pm with a memorial celebration being held at 3:00pm.
