Cheryl Ann "Sherry" Ayres Obituary

Cheryl Ann “Sherry” Ayres, 69, passed away and entered Eternal Life Thursday, March 21, 2024.

Born to the late Richard and Anna Martin, Sherry's life was a testament to love, dedication, and boundless enthusiasm. She shared a remarkable journey with her late husband, the esteemed Gerald L Ayres Sr., crafting not only a thriving business empire but also a tapestry of cherished memories.

Together, Sherry and Jerry breathed life into Ayres Trucking, Ohio Valley Ready Mix, and numerous Zaxby's Restaurant franchises, weaving a legacy of hard work and entrepreneurial spirit. Yet amidst their bustling enterprises, Sherry always found time to nurture her greatest treasure – her family.

In the symphony of Sherry's life, her love for her family was the sweetest melody. As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister – affectionately known as "Nanny" – she showered her loved ones with boundless affection and unwavering support. Her home was a sanctuary of love, laughter, and endless joy.

Sherry's zest for life knew no bounds. In her youth, she reveled in the warmth of the sun, dancing when the occasion presented itself. Her love for Hallmark movies and games of chance at the Horseshoe Casino and Churchill Downs brought her endless delight, infusing each moment with a sprinkle of whimsy and excitement.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Anna; husband, Gerald L Ayres, Sr.; siblings, Dick, Danny, Jimmy, and Bobby Martin.

Survivors include her children, Todd Ayres (Tammy), Frank Worgull, JoAnn Young (Devonne), Jeff Worgull (Janet), and Jerry Ayres (Secoy); siblings, Patty Eubank (Roger), Linda Maynard, Diane Meredith (Mark), Maryann Martin, Fran Lohman (Rich), Ken Martin (Nancy), Chuck Martin (Penny), Tom Martin (Linda), Ron Martin (Gina), and Jeff Martin (Sandy); grandchildren, Todd, Josh, Kassie, Ivy, Makenzi, Jaida, Cheyenne, Kurin, Tres, Destiny, Trey, and Bella; and twelve great grandchildren.
