Christy Sue (Smith) Stone

Christy Sue Stone, age 76 of Charlestown, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026, leaving behind a legacy stitched together with love, creativity, and devotion to family.

Born to the late John A. and Ruby (Bush) Smith, Christy carried her parents’ warmth and work ethic throughout her life. She was a long-time employee of Hancock Fabrics, where her talent and passion for sewing were more than just skills—they were part of who she was. After her retirement, Christy continued doing what she loved as a gifted seamstress with B&K Enterprises, where she helped craft beautiful Elvis Presley jumpsuits, each one a work of art made with careful hands and a joyful heart.

Christy’s love for sewing extended far beyond her profession. She lovingly made quilts for her family—each stitch a hug, each pattern a reminder of her steady presence and boundless love. She delighted in arts and crafts with her grandbabies, never minding a little glitter on the table or glue on her fingers if it meant sharing laughter and making memories. Her crossword puzzles kept her mind sharp, her gardens bloomed under her tender care, and she found simple joy in standing outdoors with the warmth of the sun on her face.  Above all, Christy loved her family. She treasured being “covered in grandbabies,” soaking in their giggles and holding them close. Her home was filled with love, warmth, and the comforting hum of togetherness.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, George Stone of Charlestown; her sons, Christopher Stone and Matthew Stone; her daughter, Amanda Leppert; four cherished grandchildren; and her sweet doggie, Xander, who was never far from her. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Christy’s loving life-long friends who never left her side.  Altogether, they were the heart of her world. 

Christy will be cremated according to her wishes. A memorial service to celebrate her beautiful life will be held 1PM on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Scott Funeral Home (2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville). Friends may visit from 11AM until service time at the funeral home.

Though her hands are now at rest, the love she sewed into her family’s lives will remain forever—warm as sunshine, soft as a quilt, and strong as the threads that hold us together.
