Clarence Randall Whitaker, age 71, died at his home on September 16, 2023.
Randy was born on July 24, 1952 in Louisville, KY. He grew up in Charlestown and graduated from Charlestown High School. He was drafted and served in the Vietnam War, stationed in Ft. Monroe, VA where he was part of the US Continental Command National Color Guard and Military Police. He was proud of his military service and his appearance in the Tournament of Roses Parade.
Randy earned his undergraduate degree in economics at Indiana University Southeast and later earned his MBA in marketing. He worked in the food sales and marketing industry as well as other businesses. He was successful and loved and respected by his clients and customers. In later years he spent countless hours researching his family’s Eastern Kentucky history and genealogy. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 41 years, Flo Ann Townsend.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister, Donna K. Harper. Also surviving are his sons Brian Jones, Derek (Beth) Jones, Cullen (Erin) Jones, David (Kelly) Whitaker, and nephew Josh (Amy) Harper. He was also a loving “Grandy” to grandchildren Kelan, Riley, Hayden, Hattie May, Raegan, Nora, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and June Whitaker.
The family has honored Randy’s wish for cremation. A memorial service will be celebrated 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 5, 2023, at Stony Point Christian Church, 10100 Stoney Point Road – Charlestown. Family and friends will be invited to share their memories of Randy during a time of remembrance during the memorial service. Memorial visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the church. Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway – Jeffersonville, has been entrusted with arrangements.
