Clifton Hood, age 73, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025, in New Albany, Indiana. He was born on March 17, 1952, in Meridian, Mississippi, to the late Clifford Hood and Mary Magdalene Donald Hood.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, Clifton honorably served his country as a Sergeant, leading an all-women troop with distinction. Following his military service, he continued a life of purpose and leadership, working as a Government Inspector. He was also a dedicated member of Toastmasters at the Census Bureau, an Ambassador for LegalShield, and a committed mentor through Fresh Start University.
Clifton graduated from West Lauderdale High School in Collinsville, Mississippi, and was a lifelong learner and encourager of others. He had a deep passion for mentoring youth and helping others achieve their potential—a calling he considered his greatest gift. He loved running, traveling, and spending time with his family. His faith was central to his life, and he was a member of Bible Believers Church and Gilt Edge Baptist Church.
Clifton was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Jackie Hood; brothers, James Frank Hood, Rev. Willie Hood Sr., and Henry Thompson; sister, Gracie Hood-Ivy; and his stepson, Tyron Tyson Sr.
He is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn Tyson Hood; his children: Cinnamon Hood, Faith Hood, Amanda Hood-Rose, Aimee Hood, Cliff (Nichole) Hood, David Hood, and Jonathan (Whitney) Hood; stepchildren: Jacqueline (Rahim) Tyson-Coulter, Ciara Tyson, Erica (Arsulan) Tyson-Javed, Alonzo Tyson, and Sean (Charity) Tyson. He also leaves behind a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought joy and pride to his life.
Clifton is also survived by his siblings: Mary (Ezell) Cole, George (Virginia) Hood, Velma Williams, Ruby (James) Hood-Pearson, Geneva Pickens, Estella (Chris) Williams, Johnnie Mae (Rev. Andrew) West, and Annette Williams; sister-in-laws Lynda Hood and Lela Thompson; his beloved aunt, Oria D. Goines; and many other in-laws, relatives, and dear friends who will miss him greatly.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville, IN 47130. A private burial will follow at a later date at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery in Radcliff, KY.
Clifton's legacy of service, mentorship, and unwavering faith will live on in all who knew and loved him.
