David Alan Shelton

David Alan Shelton, 66, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on March 8, 1960, David lived a life defined by hard work, service, devotion to family, and a genuine willingness to help others.

David proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army, carrying the values of duty, honor, and integrity throughout his life. Following his military service, he worked for 22 years at Colgate-Palmolive in Jeffersonville, where he earned the respect and friendship of many coworkers. He later continued his career with the Department of Veterans Affairs before retiring. Even in retirement, David remained active and found great joy working at O'Bannon Woods State Park, combining his love for nature and the outdoors with his strong work ethic.

Above all else, David cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, caring brother, and loyal friend. For 47 wonderful years, he shared a beautiful life with his beloved wife, Sabeena Shelton. Together they built a family filled with love, laughter, and countless treasured memories.

David loved hiking, exploring the outdoors, riding motorcycles, and spending time in nature. He was known for his strong character, kind heart, and unwavering generosity. Whether a family member, friend, neighbor, or stranger needed help, David was always willing to lend a hand. His compassion, dependability, and selfless spirit touched countless lives and will never be forgotten.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Sabeena Shelton; his children, Scott Shelton (Melissa) and Kevin Shelton (Erin); his cherished grandchildren, Taylor, Jacob, Ella, and Brooks Shelton; his siblings, Mickey Morgan (Denny), Jerry Shelton (Donna), and Johnny Shelton (Sylvia Wright); his nieces and nephews, Eric Morgan, Angie Morgan, Monica Williams, and Jessica Miller; and numerous extended family members and dear friends who will miss him deeply.

David was preceded in death by his parents, John and Bonnie Shelton.

David's legacy lives on through the love he shared, the lives he touched, and the example he set through his kindness, dedication, and service. He leaves behind a family who adored him and a community made better by his presence.

A Celebration of Life is currently being planned, and details will be announced once finalized. Military honors will be rendered at New Albany National Cemetery at a later date.

Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in knowing that David's love, strength, and spirit will remain with us always.
