Dennis L. Heinz, 75, of Floyds Knobs, IN, entered into eternal rest on November 17th, 2024 at home surrounded by loving family. He was born on November 26, 1948 in New Albany, Indiana, the son of late William Heinz and Edith (Broughton) Heinz.
He graduated from New Albany High School in 1966. While in high school, he played the violin in the Louisville Orchestra Band. He was an Eagle Scout. He joined the Army in 1969 and served until honorably discharged in 1971. He fought valiantly in the Vietnam War earning the Army Commendation Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Air Medal, the Sharpshooter Badge and the National Defense Service Medal. He then went on to earn a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Louisville in 1974.
He married Carol (Ruoff) Heinz on June 29, 1974 at Centenary Church, in New Albany, Indiana. In June, they celebrated 50 years of marriage.
Dennis loved collecting guns, building model airplanes, going to art museums and listening to Doo-Wop music with his wife Carol. He loved collecting baseball cards with his son John, and spending time with his grandchildren, Will and Izzy Gardner.
Remaining to cherish Dennis’ memory are spouse, Carol Heinz; children, Holly (Rick) Heinz-Gardner and John Heinz; grandchildren, William and Isabela Gardner; and brother, William “Bill” Heinz.
Visitation will be at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway on Friday November 22 from 2-7pm. And again, on Saturday from 10am-12pm, with his funeral service at 12pm at the Chapel in Scott Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Abundant Life Memorial Gardens. Military Honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army.
