Funeral services for Doris Marie Maloney, 97, of Jeffersonville, Indiana will be held at 11 AM on Friday, July 9, 2021 at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, 329 Walnut Street in Jeffersonville, with burial to follow in Walnut Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-8 PM at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Pkwy in Jeffersonville, and on Friday at the church prior to the service from 10-11 AM. She passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2021 at Autumn Woods Health Campus.
Doris was born on April 29, 1924 in Jeffersonville, Indiana to the late H. Graham and Grace Horlander. She was a retired registered nurse and a longtime member of St. Luke’s United Church of Christ. Doris volunteered most of her life for the betterment of others. She opened her home and welcomed Bosnian refugees a place to live. She was the founder of Loaves & Fishes which she ran for 25 years. Doris volunteered her time with Meals On Wheels and The American Red Cross. The Jeffersonville Rotary Club recognized her with the Service Above Self Award for her service to the community and she was recognized with the Doris Maloney Fund of the Women’s Fund of Door County, WI, which was the first granting organization for women and girls in the county. She will be deeply missed by her friends, family and the community.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Lee Maloney; and a brother, Wilbur Horlander.
Doris is survived by her seven children, Richard Maloney (Kay), Ronald Maloney (Pam), Karen Spencer, Michael Maloney (Marsha), Gary Maloney (Carol), Beverly Hennegan-Hurlbut (Phil), William Maloney (Beth); two siblings, Walter Horlander (Joann), Faye Zurschmeide (Bob); twenty-one grandchildren; forty-three great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
