Obituary

Douglas Chinn, 69, of Evansville, IN, formerly Jeffersonville, IN, passed away on June 22, 2022 with his family by his side.

A funeral service will be held at 6:00 PM on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville, IN 47130. Visitation will be held from 1 to 6 PM on Sunday at the funeral home.  A private graveside will be held on Monday at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville.

Doug was born on December 12, 1952 in Louisville, KY to the late Bobbie and Patricia Chinn. He was a 1971 graduate of Jeffersonville High School and then received his Bachelor’s of Science, Masters, and Specialist Degrees in Education from Indiana University. Doug retired from Greater Clark County Schools after 35 years and then moved to Evansville, IN where he continued working and mentoring in the Education field.

Douglas Chinn was a loving husband and motivating father who adored his grandchildren. He was an elementary school principal who’s compassion, care, and understanding of children helped him plant roots into the community around him. HIs lifelong goal was to help feed children’s appetite for wonder, help them discover their indefinite potential, and taught them anything is possible. Doug exercised their creative nature, empowered their intellectual curiosity and inspired them to chase their dreams. He did the same for his friends and family well into old age. The world was a better place because of Doug and he will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Chinn (Saunders) and father, Bobbie Chinn.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Karen Chinn; children, Julie Chinn Gilham (Christopher Jines), and Matthew Chinn; brother, Brian Chinn (Peggy); grandchildren, Olivia Gilham (Tyler Campbell), Levi Gilham, and Liam Gilham.  He also leaves behind his nephews, Cameron Chinn, Alex Chinn, and Clayton Chinn.

Memorial contributions can be made to First Christian Church of Jeffersonville, IN.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
