Dr. Benjamin Asare, 71, of Jeffersonville, IN passed away on January 11, 2020. He was born in Anum Apapum, Eastern Region, Ghana, Africa on November 13, 1948. Dr. Asare was a Sociology Professor at Indiana University Southwest for over 30 years. His interests and publications have been in the area of development of African nations as well as the social and political changes taking root in emerging democracies of less developed countries. Dr. Asare published countless articles and his work was included in the books Women and Sustainable Development in Africa, Capacity Building in Developing Countries: Human and Environmental Dimensions and Multiculturalism in a Cross National Perspective. He was intellectually curious, incredibly resilient, and dogmatically tenacious.
Benjamin was a loving father and is survived by his children: Albert Asare, Charles Asare, Irene Asare, Bernice Asare, Thomas Asare and Eric Asare as well as his five grandchildren. He also has a very large extended family including eight brothers and sisters and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, January 24, 2020, from 3pm-8pm at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville, IN. A celebration of Benjamin's life will be Saturday, January 25, 2020, at Scott Funeral Home beginning at 12pm.
Burial will follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery, 2421 Hamburg Pike, Jeffersonville, IN.
