Funeral services for Ernest “Fred” Gullion, 82, of Scottsburg, Indiana will be held at 11 AM on Monday, December 7, 2020 at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Pkwy in Jeffersonville, with burial to follow in Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-4 PM and on Monday from 10-11 AM at the funeral home. He passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at Clark Memorial Hospital.
Fred was born on November 30, 1938 in Switzerland County, Indiana, to the late Hershel and Irene Dickerson-Gullion. He retired as an E7 with the Army National Guard after 20 years of service. Fred was very proud of his service to our country and was awarded the coveted Connely Award which awarded Fred as the “Most Outstanding Soldier” of the year for the State of Indiana. Fred was a member Emmanuel Baptist Church for 60 years where he was involved in many roles, including Deacon, trustee, song leader and secretary. He also volunteered his time to cook meals at the church every Wednesday evening. Fred had many hobbies and pastimes that his family will cherish forever. He was often found sharing stories with his friends and family on the porch swing or writing short stories about his life’s adventures. Fred enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He was involved several years with the local farmer’s market in Scottsburg. Fred and his wife Rowena operate the Gullion’s Farm Store in Scottsburg where they proudly sell fresh eggs and honey along with other produce. Fred enjoyed ancestry history and he belonged to Clarks Grant Historical Society in Charlestown, Indiana. He was currently serving as President of the Historical Society in Lexington, Indiana and was involved with the Switzerland County Historical Society.
Fred is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Rowena Tetley-Gullion; three children, Rhonda Scott, Paula Taylor, Monte Gullion (Mindy); three siblings, Jeanetta Jackson, Larry Gullion, Joyce Gibson; five grandchildren, Steven Zink (Doug Johnson), Zach Taylor, Alex Gullion (Cameron), Adam Taylor, Brian Gullion; and one great granddaughter, Eleanor Gullion.
Memorial contributions can be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 809 Springdale Drive, Jeffersonville, Indiana. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
