Estill “Smitty” Smith, 76, of Jeffersonville, IN passed away on Friday, April 24th, 2020 at home surrounded by his loving family. Scott Funeral Home has been entrusted with his care, and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
Born/raised in Talcum, KY, he has been a resident of Jeffersonville since 1964. He worked at Jeffboat for 22 years as a Welder, Steel Fitter, Leadman, Foreman, Superintendent, and Production Manager. He Spent 6 years working for American Commercial Barge Lines. In 1992 he started Estill Smith Marine Services, Inc. and continued to operate the business to the present.
Past memberships, boards, and organizations: Clark County Chamber of Commerce Community Leadership Program 1981-1982 (Charter Class), Advisory Committee of Cordon Porter Schools (Welding Program), American Welding Society, Propeller Club of Louisville, National Paint Conferences.
He enjoyed building and fixing things, working with heavy equipment and machinery, working on large projects with his wife and family. He enjoyed helping his neighbors with projects. He was a wonderful husband, father, friend and neighbor.
Estill is preceded in death by his parents, Azard and Daisy Smith, and his brothers, Carlos and David Smith.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Helen Smith of 56 years; two children, Ezra Ray Smith and Tina Fraser (Terry); sisters, Evelyn Kelly, Esther Lowry (Bob), and Janice Campbell; brother-in-law Sam Hudson (Susan); grandchildren, Michael Fraser and Melissa Myroup; and great-grandchildren.
