Franklin “Delbert” Gray, age 90, was called home to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. A gracious, kind, and revered man, Delbert lived his life in faithful service to others and to the Lord. Eleven people met on September 20, 1962, which led to the Men’s Independent Christian Mission of Louisville, Kentucky appointing Delbert as the founding pastor of Eastside Christian Church in Jeffersonville, Indiana, where he passionately ministered for over 26 years. His heart for people and his unwavering commitment to proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ touched countless lives.
Delbert’s life was a testament to the love and grace of God, whether he was delivering a sermon from the pulpit or speaking words of comfort from a hospital bed. His focus was always on the Kingdom of Christ and sharing the good news of the Savior. His gentle spirit and faithful service will be remembered by all who knew him.
In his later years, Delbert found immense joy in tending to his Angus and Polled Hereford cattle and in serving the congregation of Henryville Community Church. His love for his community and his Savior was evident in all he did. His vocational calling to ministry was marked by incredible church growth and discipleship of those he was blessed to shepherd.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of Amedysis Hospice for their compassionate and loving care of Delbert in his final days.
Delbert leaves behind a legacy of faith, kindness, and a life well-lived for the glory of God. His family, friends, and all who were touched by his ministry will carry his memory in their hearts forever.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 55 years, June Annabelle Carter Gray; siblings, Elsie Gray, Stella Hall, Beulah Bunch, Ernest Gray, and George Adron Gray.
