Fred Steaban, age 82, formerly of Capac, Michigan, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
A proud Michigander through and through, Fred devoted 30 faithful years of service to General Motors before retiring at the remarkably young age of 48. His strong work ethic and dedication were hallmarks of a life well-lived.
Fred was never one to sit still. He filled his days on the lanes as an avid bowler and on the greens as a passionate golfer…though fair warning: a well-placed foot wedge may have occasionally “helped” his ball back onto the fairway. He cheered religiously for his Detroit Tigers and, yes, even the St. Louis Cardinals, never missing a chance to root for his favorite teams. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Jeffersonville.
But nothing brought Fred more joy than his role as Grandpa. Moving to Jeffersonville marked the beginning of his greatest chapter. From afternoon school pickups to spontaneous fast-food runs off the dollar menu, Fred treasured every moment with his grandchildren. His love was tangible, constant, and unwavering… a legacy of kindness and devotion that his family will carry forward.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 53 years, Anne Marie Steaban.
Survivors include his children, Debbie Rodeghier (TJ), Beth Steaban, and Cheri Steaban; grandchildren, Mackenzie Harper (Evan) and Jordan Rodeghier; great grandson, Ace Harper; siblings, Sandy Hunter (Gary), Henry Steaban (Robin), Lynn Schmidt (Dewey), and Alan Steaban (Debbie); and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held in Capac, Michigan and the Kaatz Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. Service details may be found at https://www.kaatzfunerals.com/
Following services in Michigan a memorial service will be celebrated 1 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Faith Lutheran Church in Jeffersonville.
