Gary Haseker Obituary

Gary Ray Haseker, 71, of New Albany, Indiana was at his home when he entered into the joy of the Lord on Sunday October 11, 2020.

Gary was born on May 30, 1949 to Frank and Hazel (Detroy) Haseker in Louisville,KY.  On December 28, 1973 he married Nancy Carol Jordan. Together they raised their only daughter, Linnea.  He received his Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Marketing from the University of Louisville in 1972. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He enjoyed a successful business career, starting as a buyer for Bacon’s department store, followed by several decades as a sales executive for various companies, including TY® Beanie Babies. Prior to retirement, he worked for Lowe’s Home Improvement store.

Gary was a loyal Louisville Cardinals fan. He was a member of Southeast Christian Church. He had a uniquely rich baritone voice and enjoyed singing in the church choir. He was an automotive enthusiast and attended many car shows. His “never-got-old” joke was that instead of purchasing his dream car, a Mercedez-Benz, he and Nancy chose to have a daughter. Gary was known for his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone he met, his sense of humor and his generous spirit. His most defining attribute was an exuberant perseverance, which made him passionate, decisive, full of conviction and able to stand his ground.

Gary was preceded in death by his father Frank, mother Hazel and brother Stuart. Gary is survived by his wife Nancy, daughter Linnea Kessans (Brad) and brother Ronald Haseker (Michelle).

Private services will be held at a later date. Cremation was chosen and Scott Funeral Home has been entrusted to his care. No flowers, please. Gary was a simple, frugal man and what would make him happiest is for his mourners to enjoy a good meal with those they hold dearest and to remember his seal of approval at such occasions: second helpings and a bit of food spilled on your shirt. Those who feel compelled to honor Gary’s memory in a tangible form, are welcome to send donations to: Dayspring Emmaus Community of Southern Indiana or the Beta Theta Pi Foundation. The family is forever in debt to the neighbors, Marsha and Dan Himmelhaver, for decades of friendship and all of their help in recent years. We couldn’t have done it without you.
