Gary Furmon Parker

Gary Furmon Parker, husband of Star Donna Parker of Jeffersonville, IN, went Home to be with the Lord, on Wednesday Nov. 10, 2021 surrounded by his family at Kindred Hospital. He was 68 years old.

Born in Exeter, California, he was the oldest son of the late Furmon Parker and Norma (Phillips) Parker, both of whom preceded him in death.

Gary devoted his life to his wife, Star Donna, and his children: Rachel Thrasher (John Thrasher) and Isaac Parker (Stacy Parker). He was deeply proud of providing for his family. Gary adored his 7 grandchildren and cherished every minute with them.

Gary was in management in the transportation and logistics industry, where he served for more than 20 years as an integral part of the management team for A&R Logistics.  This company is a multinational corporation with a fleet of more than 1,000 trucks and 1,650 trailers and an extensive national network of 27 terminals and 19 warehousing facilities.

Gary started his career in driving a truck with his father for a local concrete company in Arizona. Over the years, he worked for Anaconda Transportation, Olin Chemical and Rohm & Haas Chemicals just to name a few.  In his more than 40-year career, Gary won numerous awards including specialized recognitions for “Million Mile Safety” , “Professional Driver of the Year” and numerous “outstanding performance” awards. In one particular recognition, the president of the company captured Gary’s workstyle by writing:  “Gary, you were born a team player.”

Gary was a valued member of the Local Emergency Planning Commission in Jeffersonville, which designed and implemented strategic emergency planning responses for the City. He was presented with the “Distinguished Service Award” in appreciation for the “selfless support of the Jeffersonville Police Department.”

The United Way recognized him with a community service award for transporting disaster relief supplies to Homestead, FL during a natural disaster.  

But of all his awards and accolades for his exemplary work, Gary often said, privately to his family, that the highlight of his professional life was having the privilege to use his industry expertise in plastics to consult on a special project for Voice Of God Recordings, building Agapoa tablets to distribute the ministry of the Rev. William Branham to the world, from the jungles of Africa to remote parts of Russia and many areas in between.

In his free time, Gary enjoyed fishing, hunting and listening to Gospel music. Gary was a quiet and peaceful man with endless patience and kindness. He had a unique sense of humor and was quick to share his humor with a text, meme or a call.  He had a great knack for sending them at just the right time. A man with a velvety tenor bass voice, Gary often used his gift of singing to tell people about his Best Friend and Savior: the Lord Jesus Christ. He felt that the greatest inheritance to leave his family was the Foundation of loving the Lord.  Gary loved spending time with his wife, and never missed an opportunity to tell people how lucky he was to have such a devoted and loving wife. Married 45 years this year, Gary loved to take “my lovely bride” as he called her, to their favorite vacation spot, Mackinaw Island, Michigan, to watch the waves and munch Murdock’s Peanut Brittle.

In addition to his wife and children, Gary is survived by two brothers: Larry Parker (Rebecca), Jerry Parker (Ruth), his 7 beloved grandchildren and numerous uncles and aunts. He is also survived by what he considered his second family: the brothers and sisters of the Voice Of God Recordings and Branham Tabernacle.
A visitation, open to the public, will be held at Scott Funeral Home on Veterans Parkway in Jeffersonville, Indiana on Monday, November 15th  from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m with a public graveside burial at 12 p.m on Tuesday, November 16th at Eastern Cemetery in Jeffersonville, IN.

In view of Gary’s love of the Agapao tablet project, the family is asking that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Voice Of God Recordings to assist in the continuation of this project.
