George Frederick Bissig, age 78, entered Eternal Life on Saturday, June 22, 2024. Born as one of six children to the late Frederick and Bernardine Bissig, George lived a life marked by devotion, service, and love.
A proud veteran, George served his country with honor in the United States Army. His faith as a devout Catholic was a cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and inspiring those around him.
George’s life was enriched by a love story that began in the most endearing way. As a toddler, he jokingly stole the tricycle of the girl who would become his lifelong partner, instigating a bond that blossomed into a beautiful marriage of 56 years. This whimsical beginning was a testament to the joy and laughter that characterized his relationship with his beloved wife.
An avid camper and RV enthusiast, George was known far and wide for his expertise and passion for the great outdoors. He spent countless weekends sharing this love with family and friends, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
As a devoted father, George was actively involved in his sons' lives, particularly through his participation with Troop 25 in Lanesville, where he left a lasting impact on many young lives through his guidance and support in Scouts.
George's professional life was equally remarkable. As a machinist in the tool and die industry, he fabricated masterpieces that ranged from biscuit cutters at Pillsbury to intricate medical equipment, showcasing his unparalleled skill and craftsmanship. His contributions to the industry continue to benefit many, a testament to his enduring legacy.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, William, David, and Paul Bissig.
George is survived by his loving wife, Beverly Bissig; sons, Chris (Connie) and Greg (Shanie); his beloved grandchildren, Brandon and Hannah; sister, MaryAlice Fortener (Ed); brother, Thomas Bissig (Diana); and a host of extended family and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024, at St Mary’s Catholic Church, 2500 Saint Mary’s Dr. NE – Lanesville, with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2-8 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2024, at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway – Jeffersonville.
