Gerald Powell Obituary

Gerald Wayne Powell, age 72, of Jeffersonville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. Born to the late James Harroll and Marion Lucille (Kindom) Powell, Gerald lived a life filled with faith, love, and music.  A proud U.S. Army Veteran, Gerald served his country honorably in Korea.  After his military service, he became a dedicated truck driver, his most recent years with Bumper-to-Bumper. His work ethic, steady spirit, and kind heart left a mark on everyone he met along the road.

Gerald’s heart truly belonged to his faith. He was a faithful member of Greater Life Apostolic Church in Louisville, where he found great joy in teaching the Life Tots Sunday School Class. His patience, laughter, and gentle love for his fellow church members reflected the spirit of Christ he carried within him.

Music was another of Gerald’s greatest joys. Every Saturday morning, you could find him at Charlestown Square, playing his bass guitar and lifting spirits as part of the Real Square Band. He had a special way of praising God through playing and singing his music, and he never hesitated to share that joy with others.  When he wasn’t playing music, Gerald could often be spotted cruising around town in his red Polaris Slingshot, music up as loud as possible — a sight that perfectly captured his zest for life.

Gerald is survived by his devoted wife of 29 years, Sherry (Winters) Powell of Jeffersonville; his beloved sons: Jamie Powell, Andrew Winters, and Aaron Winters, all of Jeffersonville; his brother, Russell Powell of Louisville; his sister, Bonnie Wallace of Louisville; several cherished nieces and nephews; and his beloved, faithful doggy, “Little Girl, Bella.”

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Scott Funeral Home (2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville), officiated by Pastor Alan Browning of Greater Life Apostolic Church. Visitation will be Thursday morning from 10 AM until service time. Graveside services will follow at 1:30 PM at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff, KY, where Gerald will receive full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Greater Life Apostolic Sunday School at 114 N. Beckley Station Road; Louisville, KY 40245.

Gerald’s faith guided his every step, his music lifted hearts, and his love touched countless lives. Though his bass may be silent, the song of his life will play on forever — a melody of faith, family, and joy.
