Gretchen Thompson, age 50, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. Born on May 14, 1974, in Madison to Richard W. Jenkins and the late Mary-Margaret Rhodes, Gretchen lived a life marked by compassion, creativity, and deep devotion to her family.
A proud graduate of Spalding University, Gretchen dedicated her career to nursing, beginning in Labor and Delivery before finding her true calling working with dementia patients. Her work was more than a job, it was a testament to her kindness, patience, and unwavering care for those in need.
Gretchen found joy in crafting and serenity at the beach, where she loved to spend time recharging and reflecting. More than anything, she cherished moments with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
She is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, Stephen Thompson; daughters Kaitlyn Kent (Kevin) and Kamryn Pauline (Alex); her father, Richard Jenkins; father-in-law, Joe Thompson; father-in-law, Cisco Urbano; sister, Meghan Paschal (Andy); sister-in-law, Melissa Conrad (Jodie); grandchildren, Xavier Saylor, Dakota Kent, Wyatt Kent, and Marceline Pauline; nieces, Chloe Jones, Emily Jacobs, and Piper Fight; nephew, Ted Jones; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins whom she loved dearly.
Gretchen was preceded in death by her mother, Mary-Margaret Jenkins; mother-in-law, Connie Urbano; maternal grandmother, Barbara Blume Bizer; and paternal grandparents, Lum and June Jenkins.
