Hazel Jones Randolph, a devoted nurse, beloved sister, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully, on Thursday, April 24, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and compassion that touched all who knew her.
She was born on December 21, 1935, in Knox County, Kentucky. Hazel was a proud graduate of Cross Plains High School, class of 1954. Driven by a lifelong passion to care for others, she pursued a career in nursing—graduating from the New Albany School of Practical Nursing in 1979 and furthering her education to become a Registered Nurse from the Kentucky Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in 1982. Hazel dedicated her life to nursing, faithfully serving her patients with gentle care and unwavering professionalism until her retirement at the age of 62.
Hazel and her sister Bessie, were both members of Altrusa International. They were always sought out for their delicious pies they contributed for Altrusa events. Hazel attended First Baptist Church in Jeffersonville for many years.
Hazel was preceded in death by her loving husband of 30 years, James Q. Randolph, as well as her parents, Phema Grills Jones and John G. Jones. She was also preceded in death by her dear siblings: sisters Thelma Jones, Ethel Mills and Effie Day; and brothers Garnett, Clifton, Clofus, Grover, Arnold, Otis, Shelby and Ernest Jones. Though she experienced much loss, she carried herself with grace and strength, ever devoted to her faith, her family, and her calling.
She is survived by her twin sister, Bessie J. Clipp of Sellersburg, Indiana, and her youngest sister, Flora J. Cooper of Greensboro, North Carolina—both of whom held a special place in her heart. Hazel also leaves behind two beloved stepchildren, Barb Randolph-Couture and Richard Randolph, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will forever remember her warmth, wisdom, and the quiet joy she brought into their lives.
Hazel’s legacy is one of love—love shown through acts of service, laughter shared with family, and the quiet strength she carried through life’s trials. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
