Helen Jean Carter, 76, entered into Eternal Life on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
Born in McLeansboro, Illinois to the late John and Wanda Hildebrandt, Helen built a beautiful life centered around faith, family, and simple joys. She shared 57 wonderful years of marriage with the love of her life, Rich Carter, and together they raised two sons, Steven and Frank, who were the pride of her life.
Helen was a cherished “Nanny” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, finding endless happiness in their laughter, milestones, and time spent together. She treasured every opportunity to create memories with her family and leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love and devotion.
In her spare time, Helen enjoyed reading, traveling throughout the country, attending a good movie, and discovering local restaurants and hidden dives wherever life took her. She appreciated life’s simple pleasures and found joy in sharing experiences with those she loved most. She fondly recalled her time spent at UofL where she worked as a property manager in Inventory Control.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her brother, Roman Hildebrandt.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband, Rich Carter; sons, Steven Carter (Beth) and Frank Carter (Marcy); grandchildren, Courtney Ryan (Seth), Caroline Carter, Wyatt Carter, and John Carter; great-grandchildren, Emmett Ryan, Amelia Ryan, and Owen Ryan; sister, Mary Allison (Gary); brother, John Hildebrandt; along with many extended family members and dear friends who will miss her greatly.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Friends and family are invited to pass their respects from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. All are invited to join the family for a luncheon at the St. Augustine Parish Hall following the Mass.
Scott Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
