James Andrew Stark, age 88, passed away peacefully in his home on April 25, 2025. He was born in Michigan City, Indiana on February 7, 1937, the 3rd and last child of Gladys and George Stark. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Nancy Shafer Stark, his 2 siblings, Ruth Ellen Cofer, known as Toddy, and brother Bill Stark, his niece Susie Stark, his son-in law Doug Scherer and granddaughter Amanda Beckendorf.
He is survived by his daughters - Jennifer Mader (Roger), Amy Nicholson (Jim), Sharon Rosenbarger (Michael); step-children - Andy Avery (Karen), Alan Avery (Mary Anne), Anne Scherer (Kenny), his niece Lori Dickerson (Jerry), 15 grandchildren and many great- grandchildren, several great great-nieces and nephews, and his companion Sonja Wise.
Jim worked in the commercial printing field for 45 years with various companies in several states including Indiana, Wisconsin, California, and Kentucky. He had many interests including following Chicago Cubs baseball, and University of Louisville Cardinals Men’s and Women’s basketball. He also spent time in Wyoming and learned to shoe horses. This love of horses extended to horse racing, of which he was a fan. He looked forward to the Kentucky Derby every year.
His favorite pastime was music. He played Tuba and Sousaphone with several local bands over many years. He was a charter member of the River Cities Concert Band, and played in the IUS Concert Band, Harrison County Band, Windjammers Circus Band, and the University of Louisville Pep Band.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to: River Cities Concert Band or Trinity United Methodist Church of New Albany, where he was a member.
