Austin loved to travel and was fortunate enough to visit all 50 states. He especially cherished the winters spent in his motorhome with his wife, Debbie, in Florida, where they created countless beautiful memories together. His adventurous spirit and commitment to his family defined the way he lived his life.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Debbie (Moore) Grimes, and their children, Lisa Ralston (Chris) of Jeffersonville, Tara Townsend (Chris) of Washington, Georgia, Teri Thomas of Clarksville, Amy Speedy (Mitchell) of Jeffersonville, and James Austin Grimes, Jr. (Laura) of Evansville. He was a proud grandfather to eleven grandchildren: Emma, Betsy, Avery, Lilly, Garston, Maddie, Henry, Evie, Landon, Lincoln, and Grayson, as well as a great-grandfather to his great-grandson, Caspian.
He is also survived by his brothers, Marshall (Mona) and John Grimes, both of Henryville, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family who will forever remember him with love.
Austin was preceded in death by his parents, Wilber and Edna Grimes; his sisters, Evelyn, Laverne, and infant Bonita Grimes, and his brothers, Alvin and Dallas Grimes. His family takes comfort in knowing he is reunited with his loved ones in eternity.
He will be remembered for his immense love for his family, his hardworking nature, and his humorous spirit. Austin leaves behind a legacy of kindness, perseverance, and adventure that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
