James E. “Boobie” Young, Jr., beloved father, grandfather, and cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2024, at the age of 68. His departure leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him.
Boobie led a life marked by unwavering dedication, service, and boundless generosity. Born on September 20, 1955 in Louisville to the late Claudia Robinson and James E. Young, Sr., he grew up to embody the virtues of honor, integrity, and compassion. His passing leaves behind a legacy of kindness and a lifetime of cherished memories.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, demonstrating bravery and commitment to his fellow soldiers and his nation. Upon his return, he continued his life of service, not only to his country but also to his community and his faith.
A member of King Solomon, Lincoln Park, and Gilt Edge Churches, James found solace and strength in his faith. His remarkable talents as a handyman earned him the reputation of being a "Mr. Fix It" and a "Jack of All Trades." Whether it was repairing a leaky faucet, renovating a home, or lending a helping hand to a neighbor in need, his skills knew no bounds. His willingness to assist others knew no limits, and his resourcefulness was matched only by his humility.
Survivors include his children, Erica Tyson (Arslan Javed), Deanna Young, Danniyal Hinkle, and Michael Harris; siblings, Melvin White, Phyllis Hobbs Willis, Glenda White, Orlenda “Lonnie” Young, and Robert Young; his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and a multitude of friends and acquaintances whose lives he touched.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alvertus “Butch” Barney; and sister, Mary E. “Aunt Chicken” Turner.
Visitation will be held 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2024, at Scott Funeral Home. Funeral services in honor of his life will be celebrated at the end of visitation, 1 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2024, at the funeral home, with cremation to follow.
