James "Jim" Bowen Obituary

James Phillip (Jim) Bowen, 65, of Charlestown, Indiana, passed away peacefully and joined the church triumphant on May 4, 2022. James was born on June 1, 1956, in New Albany, Indiana to John and Jeannie Bowen of Charlestown. 

James was a 1974 graduate of Charlestown High School. In 1977 he received his BS in Accounting from Florida State University. He began his career in finance as a Trust Officer and Vice President of the First Bank of Charlestown. For several years, James was a Senior Project Manager, Consultant, and Principal for Eager & Associates (later Mercer Manager Advisory Services) where he created and managed Benchmarking programs for several large corporations throughout the United States, Europe, Japan, and Canada. In 2008, he joined the New Washington State Bank as a Vice President of New Independent Financial Services. 

James had been a member of the Lions Club (Charlestown), American Legion (Post 335, Charlestown), Loyal Order of Moose (Lodge 1757, Sellersburg), an assistant Scoutmaster (BSA Troop 80, Charlestown), Charlestown Angler’s bass club, and was a Life Master of the American Contract Bridge League. 

Serving the community was an important part of James’ life. He served on the Boards of the Charlestown North Clark County Library System (19 years), the Marysville-Otisco-Nabb Water Corporation (30 years), and as a member of the CHS Alumni Scholarship Finance Committee. 

His hobbies included hunting, fishing, reading, listening to music, playing bridge, and as a young man, James was an avid chess player having won two tournaments and finishing seventh in the state competition. 

Left to cherish his memory are his wife and soul mate, Donna McCreary; son James Patrick Bowen of Indianapolis; parents John and Jeannie Bowen of Charlestown; siblings, Frank (Kimberly) Bowen, Bill (Gean) Bowen, Janice (Bill) Jones, all of Charlestown. 

Scott Funeral Home has been entrusted with his cremation and a private memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Community Presbyterian Church, Charlestown, or its mission the D.I.A.P.E.R. Project.
