James V. and Barbara L. Rife

On August 15, 1954 James V Rife & Barbara L Hamm exchanged marital vows and spent the next 69 years together on earthly adventures. On October 8th, 2023 they were reunited for new adventures in heaven. Barbara Lou Rife, 91 passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 30, 2023 and 8 days later James Volney Rife, 90, passed away on October 8, 2023. Besides both sets of their parents, they were preceded in death by son Mark D. Rife. 

Barbara was born in Princeton, Illinois on September 26, 1932 to David and Clara Hamm. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Kenneth Hamm, Joan Mercer and David Hamm. 

James was born in Cairo, Illinois on July 9, 1933 to Dr. Berry V. and Charlotte Rife. He was also preceded in death by his brother Berry L. Rife.

Jim and Barb are survived by, their son Scott (Veronica), daughter-in-law Pam Rife (Mark), two granddaughters Sarah Stuart (Braxton), Kathryn Rife, great grandchildren Lillian and Nolan Stuart and Jim’s brother Dr. Charles Rife (Barbara Rose).

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held for Jim and Barb from 2 to 4pm Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Faith Lutheran Church, 2014 Allison Lane, Jeffersonville, Indiana 47130. Memorial contributions may be given in memory of Jim & Barb to the Center for Lay Ministries, 213 East Maple Jeffersonville, IN 47130.
