Jayaprakasarao Konijeti was born on January 5, 1946 in the city of Ongole in what was then the Madras Province of British India. Born in the wake of Indian independence from Great Britain, he was aptly named after an Indian freedom fighter.
The oldest of 7 children, he was a devoted son to his parents and a devoted older brother to his 6 younger siblings. As the first person in his family to get an advanced education, his father and family funded his tuition to attend a newly opened medical school at Karnataka University in the city of Gulbarga.
After graduation in 1969, he returned to his hometown of Ongole until 1971, then to a neighboring village called Darsi, where he was a general practitioner.
He was introduced to Jayaprada, then a medical student in a neighboring city. Impressed by her assertive and independent spirit, with the approval of their respective families, they were married on May 27, 1973. To be closer to her, he enrolled in additional training to be a radiologist in the city of Guntur.
After the birth of their eldest son in 1975, he migrated to the United States in 1976 to start a residency in radiology at Columbus Hospital in Chicago, IL. Upon completion of his residency training in 1979, he completed a fellowship in nuclear medicine at Northwestern University in 1980. While in Chicago, their second son was born in 1981.
He then moved to Kansas City, where he served as the Chief of Nuclear Medicine at the VA Hospital until 1989.
He then moved with his family to Terre Haute, IN where he joined a private practice. He continued to work there until his retirement in 2018.
In 2022, he and his wife relocated to Floyds Knobs, IN to be closer to their eldest son and his family.
After a long struggle with progressive Parkinson’s disease, he passed peacefully and comfortably in his home with his loving family at his side, holding his hands while he took his last breath.
He will be remembered as a steadfast patriarch of our family who uplifted any and everyone in his circle to the best of his abilities with his resources. Apart from raising 2 successful children who are practicing physicians, he is most known for his generosity and his commitment to his community, friends, and extended family. He positively altered the lives of countless individuals who credit him with their wealth and success.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Veera Raghavulu and Padmavathi, and his younger brother, Venkatappaiah. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jayaprada, his older son, Jayakrishnakamal (Melissa) of Floyds Knobs, IN, his younger son Ramdev (Gauree) of San Diego, CA, his grandchildren (Mayon, Anela, Arjun, and Surya), his 5 siblings (Syamaladevi, Samanthakam, Koteswari, Badarinarayana, and Vijayalakshmi), and their respective families.
