Jim Davis, age 83, of Jeffersonville, IN, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2024. He was born on January 16, 1941, and was preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife Joyce Davis. He is survived by his brother Ron Davis (Janet), sister Teri Acres (James), children: James Davis, Jr. (Cassandra), Carrie Davis, William “Bill” Kennedy-Sabala (Janet), Vernon Sabala, Greg Sabala, Andy Sabala (Deborah), Jon Sabala (Sylvia), grandchildren: Crystal Davis, Jamie Davis, Edward Davis, Joseph “Joey” Davis (Priscilla), April Heffington (Kody), Kathlene Davis, Ernesto Carranza (Jessica), Jeremy Sabala (Johnna), Brittany Huntley (Stephen), Kevin Sundburg (Kortney), Christina Allen (Mark), Brandin Sabala, Shelby Lee, James Sabala (Ali), Rowen Sabala, Marissa Sabala, Julia Sabala, Nicholas Sabala, Joshua Sabala, Jaycee Sabala, and 26 great grandchildren.
A U.S. Army veteran, Jim lost the lower part on his leg during his service to our country in Viet Nam. While his personal and professional affiliations and awards are too numerous to list, he was proud of his 50-year membership in the Disable American Veterans.
Jim never allowed his disability to prevent him from doing whatever he set his mind. After his honorable discharge from the military, Jim went on to earn a 4th degree blackbelt in Judo and a 1st degree blackbelt in Ju Jitsu. He learned how to make teeth as a career and held various positions in the trade…eventually becoming owner/operator of his own dental prosthetics lab. He was also the following: a pool hustler, a warehouse worker, a stuntman, a university instructor, a private investigator, a County Sheriff, and a Justice of the Peace.
Jim’s smile and humor was infectious. He had an undeniable air of peace and confidence. Not only was he the friend you’d enjoy having at your party, but in his presence, you’d never feel afraid to walk down a dark alley. He will be missed by those who survive him, but we all rejoice that he is, once again, with the love of his life Joyce.
