John Dee Mitchell, 68, died peacefully at home on May 17th, 2022.
He was born February 25th, 1954 in Oklahoma City, OK, son of Calvin D. and Barbara J. (Zumbo) Brown.
John Dee was the oldest of 10 children. He had a love for motorcycles, owning his first at age 14. He still rode every chance he got and enjoyed giving you a ride to see how fast he could go to maybe scare you.
He was proud of his oldest son, John David obtaining his MBA and always interested in his latest accomplishment, most notable the creation of his Modica business.
He was passionate about baseball and attended several Atlanta Braves games with Matthew, his second son, although his favorite MLB was the Yankees. The highlight of his week was going to watch Matthew “Slick” play in various local leagues.
He taught every young child he was around to say “I love Uncle Dee!” The great-nieces and nephews lovingly called him “Ducky Dee”. He was such a selfless person, always looking for ways to make others laugh, giving gifts that would make them smile. John Dee was a friend to everyone he met and always had a story to tell. We all knew his stories were often blown completely out of proportion but to the point where we knew it was funny and he loved just seeing you laugh. We will certainly miss all his story telling at the family gatherings. He was a great man, friend, uncle, cousin, son and brother. He was especially proud to be “dad” to John David & Matthew and “grandpa” to Bryce, his pride and joy.
He was preceded in death by his mother: Barbara J. Zumbo, sister: Gloria Flowers, a brother: Joe Brown.
John Dee is survived by his two sons: John David Mitchell, Matthew “Slick” Mitchell, grandson: Bryce Mitchell, sisters: Linda Mitchell (Ray), Lori Duffy, Jill Lehman, and brothers Mark Mitchell, Keven Mitchell (Nancy), Kent Mitchell (Alicia), Phillip Brown, Robert Mitchell (Andrea). He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.
His wishes were to be cremated with a subsequent happy gathering for his family and friends. A Celebration of Life Cookout for John Dee will be held Saturday, July 23rd at Perrin Park in Jeffersonville, IN from 4:00- 6:30pm to honor his final request. All family and friends are welcome.
