John Scannapieco Obituary

John Joseph Scannapieco, Sr., age 80, passed away on December 22, 2025, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

John was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey, to the late Francis and Eleanor (Alexis) Scannapieco. A proud sports enthusiast, he was a devoted New York Yankees and Green Bay Packers fan and enjoyed sports of all kinds. He treasured the time spent playing Fantasy Football with his son, John, and found great joy on the water while deep sea fishing.

In 2006, John and his beloved wife, Dottie, relocated to Jeffersonville, Indiana, and became active members of Sellersburg United Methodist Church. Their faith was an important part of their lives, where John regularly attended Bible study.

John was employed at Bally’s Hotel Casino in Atlantic City, NJ and the Galt House in Louisville, KY until his retirement in 2014. He was also a proud United States Army veteran who honorably served during the Vietnam War, a commitment he carried with quiet pride throughout his life.

Above all else, John cherished his family. He is survived by wife of 52 years, Dorothy Scannapieco; his children, John Scannapieco, Jr. (Kim) and Maria Scannapieco-Garcia (Pedro); his siblings, Mary Lawless, Francis Scannapieco, James Scannapieco, Margaret Miller (Ken), and Elizabeth Howard; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
