Jose Aponte Obituary

A Life Well Lived

On Friday, September 16th Jose Antonio Aponte, loving husband, father, abuelo (grandfather), son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend passed away peacefully in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Jose was born in Cayey, Puerto Rico and grew up in Jersey City, NJ. He married the love of his life, Nydia Esther Torres, in 1975. They moved to Jeffersonville, Indiana in 1987 where they raised their two daughters, Ayleen and Esther.

He was patient (even with two strong-minded daughters), kind, compassionate, giving, fun-loving and adventurous. He never knew a stranger and loved sharing his time with others and telling stories. His warm smile and big personality would light up any room he walked into and he definitely made his presence known. He had a zest for life and he danced his way through it, literally.

He loved sports and was loyal to the NY teams, especially the Yankees and Giants. He also enjoyed collecting sports memorabilia - everything from baseball cards and figurines to Nascar cars.

His house was filled with artifacts from his beloved home island of Puerto Rico and always with music, both instruments and records of all genres. Music was his passion and he shared it with anyone who listened.

He will be greatly missed by the family and friends who loved him, but his legacy will live on with every person who was fortunate to know him, and be loved by him.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Nydia, daughters Ayleen Hudson and Esther Richmer, sons-in-law Ryan Hudson and Seth Richmer, and grandchildren Isabelle Richmer, Norah and Nolan Hudson.

Visitation will be Friday, September 23 from 2:00 to 6:00 pm at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville. His funeral service will be at 6:00 pm in the chapel of the funeral home.

Jose (Joe) was a generous and charitable person. He also loved children and never wanted to see a child suffer or want for anything. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude as a way to honor his memory and legacy.

With gratitude and love,

Nydia, Ayleen and Esther
