Funeral services for Joyce Newman Johnston, 95, of Jeffersonville, Indiana will be held privately Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Scott Funeral Home in Jeffersonville, with burial to follow in Walnut Ridge Cemetery. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, all services will be private.

Joyce was born on August 30, 1925 in Henderson County, Kentucky to the late Herman and Mary Edna Newman. She graduated from Hebbardsville High School in Kentucky and later obtained her Master of Education degree from Indiana University Southeast. Joyce taught school for several years and then made the decision to stay home and raise her family. She continued her teaching career in 1968 at Jeffersonville High School until her retirement in 1988. After retirement, Joyce enjoyed traveling the world, spending time with her grandchildren and painting ceramics.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel K. Johnston; and her brother, Dr. William L. Newman.

She is survived by her three sons, Ken Johnston (Norma), John Johnston (Trudy), Paul Johnston (Theresa); six grandchildren, Lauren Corley (Tim), Krista Johnston, Dana McCreight (Brian), Kellie Robinson (Jonathon), Daniel Johnston (Megan), Jennifer Johnston; and nine great grandchildren, Zoe, Eva, Ethan, Dylan, Lillian, Kensley, Anderson, Kipton and Trey.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
