Joyce Crystal Merideth, age 67, passed away peacefully holding her daughter’s hand on Sunday, August 18, 2024, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Her journey through life was marked by an abundance of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to her family, especially her beloved grandchildren.
Known lovingly as "Nana," Joyce was the doting grandmother of six grandchildren, whom she adored with every fiber of her being. She cherished every moment spent with her "Nana Babies," and they knew that they could always count on her to be their shuttle service, ice cream buddy, and partner in all things fun and mischievous. Joyce’s greatest joy came from spoiling her grandchildren, making them feel deeply loved, and always finding ways to bring a smile to their faces.
In her free time, Joyce found solace and joy in her passions for photography and classic rock music. She had an eye for capturing the beauty of the world around her, freezing moments in time that her family will forever treasure. Her love for adventure also led her on numerous cruise line journeys, with her recent trip to Alaska being one of her most cherished memories. The beauty of the Alaskan wilderness touched her soul in ways that words could never fully capture.
But beyond her passions and adventures, Joyce will be most remembered for the deep dedication she had for her children and grandchildren. She was the heart of her family, always putting the needs of others before her own, and she took pride in nurturing, caring for, and supporting her loved ones through every season of life. Her legacy of love and devotion will live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and all who had the honor of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry B. Merideth; father, Stoy Marcum Sr.; and brother, Stoy Marcum, Jr.
Survivors include her children, Jerry Merideth (Erin), Jessica Velasco (Jason LaJoie), Joe Merideth; grandchildren, Isleta, Ria, Spencer, Lilly, Arizona, and Luna; siblings, Roxane Sparrow (Johnny) and Troy Marcum (Josie); mother, Shirley M. Bishop; friends, Terri Mahoney and Frances Walker; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
