Larry Lee Church, Sr., age 75, of Otisco, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 6, 2025. Born on April 15, 1950, to the late Haze Carl and Sadie Virginia (Money) Church, Larry lived a life rooted in hard work, love, and simple joys.
For more than three decades, Larry dedicated himself to his career as a diesel mechanic with Power Train. His steady hands, work ethic, and mechanical know-how earned him not only respect, but lifelong friendships. Larry was a man who found pride in an honest day’s work and satisfaction in a job done right. When the workday was done, Larry’s heart belonged to the outdoors. He found peace in the quiet of the woods and joy in the thrill of deer and coon hunting. Fishing trips, too, were among his favorite ways to connect with nature and those he loved. At home, he often turned his hands to woodcraft, shaping each piece with care and creativity—always building, always creating.
Above all, Larry cherished time with his family. His wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were his greatest treasures. Whether gathered for a meal, sharing stories, or simply watching the little ones play, Larry’s contentment was found in those moments of laughter and love. His great-grandchildren especially brought a spark to his days, their smiles and energy lighting up his world.
Larry is lovingly remembered by his wife, Leona Church; daughter, Barbara Scott; son, Larry Church, Jr.; sister, Ginny Church; brothers, Darrell (Dahlia) Church and Jack Church; and his beloved grandchildren: Tyler Houchens, Austin Church, Kylie Church, Shawn Combs, Logan Meredith, Gabe Scott & Taylor Madden, and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Rosetta and Margaret, and a precious great-granddaughter, Kennedy Combs.
Larry’s earthly spirit, quiet strength, and genuine heart will continue to live on in all who knew and loved him. His memory will forever echo in the woods he walked, the laughter of his family, and the craftsmanship of his hands.
A memorial service to honor Larry’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at House of Refuge (7059 E State Road 362, Nabb, IN 47147). There will be no visitation at Scott Funeral Home.
