Larry Knott Obituary

Larry Frank Knott, 85, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026. Born on June 12, 1940, Larry was raised in Dale, Indiana, where he was a standout multi-sport athlete in high school. At 6’6”, he focused primarily on basketball where he excelled.  Larry attended the University of Louisville on a basketball scholarship from 1958 to 1962.  He remained a devoted and enthusiastic University of Louisville “Cards” fan throughout his life.  Following his college years, Larry built a distinguished career with State Farm Insurance, spanning more than 40 years. For 32 of those years, he proudly served as a full-service State Farm agent in Jeffersonville, where he became a trusted advisor and friend to many in the community. His integrity, professionalism, and genuine care for others earned him deep respect among clients and friends alike.

On December 28, 1979, Larry married Sandy Gaither. They were happily married until Sandy’s death in 2019. Together, they made their home in Jeffersonville, where they became deeply involved in various community revitalization projects. Among their most meaningful achievements was their work to help fund and bring to life “Lydia’s World,” a playground specially designed for children with special needs at Bob Hedge Park in Jeffersonville, dedicated in loving memory of their granddaughter Lydia.

In addition to his professional and civic accomplishments, Larry was known for his talents as a barbershop singer. He was a longtime member of the world renown Louisville Thoroughbred Barbershop Chorus, earning several international gold medals, and serving in various chapter leadership roles including chapter president.  He also sang baritone with the very popular comedy quartet, “The Clubhouse Four”, a highly sought after show quartet that toured extensively throughout the U.S. in the 1970s. Larry served as Chairman of the 1991 International Barbershop Convention held in Louisville, Kentucky—one of the most highly attended and successful conventions in the history of the Barbershop Harmony Society.

Larry loved to fish, enjoyed summers around his pool grilling his famous baby back ribs, and he especially enjoyed time spent with his kids and grandchildren, attending as many basketball, volleyball and football games as he possibly could. He was a man of deep faith, great wisdom and a great sense of humor who wore his immense love and gratitude for his family and friends on his sleeve.

Larry is survived by his brothers Robert Knott of Evansville, Indiana, and David Knott of Muncie, Indiana; his sister Jane Bentley of Indianapolis, Indiana; his son Kevin Knott (Mary Alice) of New Albany, Indiana; his daughters Karen Ricci of Jeffersonville, Indiana, and Kim Farrell (Fred) of Fort Myers, Florida; his stepson Steve Eggenspiller of Louisville, Kentucky; as well as seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents H.F. and Eunice Knott of Dale, Indiana; his wife, Sandy Knott; his stepson, John Eggenspiller; and his granddaughter, Lydia Ricci.
