Larry James Romero, age 79, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 20, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. A proud United States Air Force Veteran, Larry lived a life marked by service, devotion, and an unshakable love for the people who meant the most to him.
Larry was a true car enthusiast, spending countless hours under the hood, behind the wheel, or simply admiring the craftsmanship of a beautifully built machine. When he wasn’t spending time with cars, he could often be found out on the water aboard his beloved boat, Takeela, where he felt the most at peace.
Above all else, Larry will be remembered for the role he cherished most: family man. He was a devoted husband, a loving and steady father, a loyal brother, and a proud grandfather. To his grandchildren, he was “Gramps”, and lovingly known as the most loveable “Grumpus”, a title he embraced with humor, tenderness, and absolute pride. His presence brought warmth, strength, and a sense of belonging to every gathering.
Larry’s legacy is one of quiet generosity, unwavering loyalty, and a heart big enough to hold his entire family. His stories, his laughter, and his unmistakable spirit will continue to live on in the lives he shaped.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy and sister, Dot.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Debbie Romero; children, Tasha Jones, Scott Romero, Shane Romero, Dustin Romero (Tia), Rylee Romero; grandchildren, Paige, Gage, Wyatt, Chloe, Marcus, Markia, Terry, Ziva’rae, and Adalyn; and siblings, Ray (Joyce), Nancy, and Cathy.
A memorial visitation will be held for family and friends to pay their respects on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, from 3–7 p.m. at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville, Indiana.
