Leonard P. Procopio (Leo, Perk, Uncle Junior) left this world on June 8, 2025 at ninety-one years old to join his beloved Mary Ann. Born March 10, 1934 in Gary, IN as the second youngest in a large Italian family, Leonard served in the United States Army. After returning home, he worked as a draftsman and electrician for U.S. Steel. He called Griffith, IN home for many years until recently relocating to Sellersburg, IN. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-seven years Mary Ann (nee Ligda). Also preceding him were his parents Leonard and Pauline Procopio, siblings and in-laws: Josephine (Frank) Pavazzi, Bernard (Rose) Procopio, Frank Procopy, Sarah (Al) Wayte, Catherine (Bill) Hatch and in-laws Spiro Manos, Mary Procopy, Mildred “Bernie” (Panteley) Yakovetz and Carole Ligda. Survivors include his children Rebecca (Kenneth) Didat, John (SueAnne) Procopio, Theresa Procopio, grandchildren Alex (Bruna) Didat, Kyle Didat, Ryan
Didat, step-grandson Michael Klein, step-great-grandsons Christopher Klein and Anthony Klein, sisters Mary Jean Manos and Rose Procopy, brother-in-law John Ligda, and many nieces and nephews.
An avid sports fan, Leo passionately cheered on the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers, Indiana University Hoosiers and the University of Louisville Cardinals. He could always be found with a cup of coffee in his hand, and being an animal lover, feeding the birds or doling out peanuts to the squirrels. His traveling cat companion Larry also survives.
