Marjorie R. Cenower, age 96, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, January 31, 2024. Born in Alabama to the late Ota and Jennie Renegar, Marjorie lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a deep commitment to her family and community.
Marjorie's life was marked by a remarkable career as a dedicated school teacher, leaving an indelible impact on the lives of countless students and serving Delta Kappa Gamma and other various teacher associations. Her passion for education was matched only by her fervent love for her family. Marjorie was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, a cherished grandmother, and a beloved great-grandmother.
A proud Member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Marjorie honored her heritage and contributed to the preservation of American history. Her sense of duty extended to her active participation in the St. Luke United Church of Christ - Jeffersonville, where she found lasting friendships and community.
Marjorie had a zest for life that was truly inspiring. She found joy in the simple pleasures, such as her cherished horse, Cassandra, with whom she shared daily rides until the impressive age of 73. Her beloved miniature poodle, the late Beau, brought her immeasurable comfort and companionship over the years.
One of Marjorie's favorite pastimes was gathering with her family at the Jeff Riverfront, where they enjoyed the enchanting atmosphere and live music. These moments created lasting memories that will be cherished by those fortunate enough to have shared in them.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Albert Cenower; brother, OJ Renegar; and sister, Nellie Hart.
Survivors include her children, Ann Swilley of Scottsburg, IN and Allen Cenower of Loxahatchee, FL; grandchildren, Amy Kempf (Josh), Patricia Cenower (Stacy Workman), and Dylan Cenower; great grandchildren, Daxton and Porter Kempf; and many loved nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to honor Marjorie's life will be held on her birthday, 11 a.m. Tuesday February 13, 2024, at St. Luke United Church of Christ - Jeffersonville. The family invites you to pay your respects prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hosparus Health of Southern Indiana or an animal rescue organization of your choice in Marjorie's memory.
