Mary Clyde Proctor Tutt, age 102, departed from this life with family by her side Monday, July 22, 2024. Mary was born in Salem, Kentucky as one of seven children to the late Herman and Autra Proctor. Mary professed her faith in Christ at an early age and joined the Indiana Avenue Missionary Baptist Church in 1967, where she worshipped until her passing.
She loved working in the church, where she sang in the choir, was the head of the usher board, and seamlessly ran the kitchen. It was her love of cooking, where she poured her heart into wonderful dishes that served as a blessing to others. She made the most mouth-watering homemade yellow cake with caramel drizzle icing, homemade ketchup, and her signature chow chow.
Mary enjoyed life to the fullest and relished sharing time with her family and friends, especially Virginia McWilliams. She had a flare for fashion, and had a particular love of hats and the color purple. She and her husband, Walter Thomas “Sonny” Tutt, Sr., were united in Holy Matrimony on February 27, 1937 in Auburn, Kentucky. Together they would spend many wonderful years raising their family until his passing in 1988.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Walter Thomas “Sonny” Tutt, Sr; daughter, Doretha Faye Tutt Davey; granddaughter, Tina Marie Davey; grandson, Terry Lee Davey; step-daughter, Izetta Tutt (Mickey); great-granddaughters, Tionne’ Baker; granddaughter, Felicia Bonner Floyd; and great-grandson, Chauntez Vasser.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Ayers Amelia Martin of Jeffersonville, IN, Linda Darnell Tutt (Dominic) of Louisville, KY, Hildera Ann Cherry (the late, Ronald) of Jeffersonville, IN, Sharon Voletta Martin (Ronald), Mary Loyce Bell (the late, Nathaniel) of Jeffersonville, IN, Brenda Joyce Tutt of Jeffersonville, IN, Betty Valeria Harvey (Mike) of Jeffersonville, IN, Princess Denise Tutt of Asheville, NC, Walter Thomas Tutt, Jr. of Jeffersonville, IN, and Orville Vernon Tutt of Jeffersonville, IN; 39 grandchildren; 110 great-grandchildren; and 91 great-great-grandchildren.
