Mary Louise Densford Obituary

Mary Louise Densford arrived October 29, 1935 and left us during the lunar totality on pi day, March 14, 2025. Our loving mother is survived by her children Denise M. Spivey (Dan), Thomas E. Densford, Jr. (Beth), Deborah A. Lester (David), and Christina D. Densford; siblings Thomas A. Dieruf (Janet), Sara K. Dieruf, Jerry C. Dieruf (Pam); 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren with a 7th on the way. Mary Lou was predeceased by her parents, Edward H. Dieruf and Frances Irene Dieruf; siblings, ClaryLee Eifler and Jack E. Dieruf; and more recently Thomas E. Densford Sr., Dennis D. Densford, Shelby Rose Densford, and Finn and Tommy Densford.

Mary Lou took refuge in her life of service. During her 40-year nursing career, she held leadership roles at Clark Memorial ER, the U.S. Census Bureau Health Unit, Jefferson Psychiatric Hospital Adolescent Unit - where she was known as Grandma - Court Mediation and Guardian Ad Litem. Her final career with the American Red Cross focused on improving veterans’ transition to civilian life, as well as supporting the communities near Ground Zero after 9/11 and in the swamps after Hurricane Katrina. She retired from 3 of those positions and just when we thought she would settle down, she would start a new career.

Mary Lou was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Jeffersonville, Indiana, for 50 years. She was a long time member of the choir and enjoyed her time on the parish council, coordinating bereavement meals, maintaining church linens, as well as developing the gardens and a walking labyrinth. She was a dedicated Master Gardener, a volunteer with both the KY Center for the Arts and Derby Dinner Playhouse, and an active member of PSI IOTA XI and NARFE in support of retired federal workers. Her hobbies included bowling, boating, bunco, quilting, cake decorating, reiki, poker, hummingbirds, horticulture and a continuous study toward a higher understanding. She most often had a smile on her face as she made an impact on most everyone she met. She will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be held at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville, IN, on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm.
