Mary Ruth "Ruby" Peters

Mary Ruth “Ruby” Peters, age 91, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Lebanon Junction to the late Joseph and Anna Gootee, Ruby lived a full and faithful life rooted in love, family, and devotion.

She was a longtime and devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She carried herself with quiet strength, compassion, and a heart that welcomed all who knew her.

She was the cherished mother of Kenneth Peters (Leigh Ann), Harriet Rutledge (Mike), and Steven Peters (Sharon); beloved grandmother to Amy, Cherie, Jamie, Katrina (Ian), Angelina (Ezra), Jacob (Karen), Joshua (Tiffany), and Gregory; and a proud great-grandmother to 14 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Her legacy of kindness and perseverance lives on in each of them.

She is also survived by her dear siblings: Catherine Hailey (Johnny), JC Gootee (Viola), and Hazel Routin (Bobby), who stood by her throughout life’s joys and challenges.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Claude Peters; and her siblings, Theresa Batts (Clarence) and Donald Gootee.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2025, at Scott Funeral Home. A funeral service in celebration of Ruby’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
